It’s wedding season and for most couples and suppliers it’s been a year of disarray as we navigate our way through a global pandemic and while we see changes and restrictions to the celebrations we all know and love, it hasn’t stopped us from exploring and experimenting with new trends for upcoming weddings and events.
I love putting together mood boards and was running through colours and trends to add to my inspiration book for meetings, so thought I would create and share a couple of wedding vibes that really stood out for me.
So, what’s trending in 20/21:
Celestial and Magical Charm:
Don’t we all need a little bit of magic in 2020?!
They say we are going through a cosmic shift and we are seeing a shift into cosmic and crystal aesthetics when styling weddings!
The magic of crescent moons, sparkling lights, geometric patterns, rose quartz and geodes with beautiful colour pallets of soft pinks, golds, silvers, creams, rich purples, and shades of blues - think a starry night!
For cakes, the geode and geometric cake trend have been around for a while and is still a strong favourite going into this wedding season for couples who want to keep it modern but interesting with texture and aesthetic.
I have a geode wedding cake with some beautiful colour accents that I will be making for a gorgeous couple once restrictions are lifted and can’t wait to share this with you all! It’s definitely got magic vibes!

Sustainable Weddings:
Not only is it important to take care of ourselves but our environment around us.
More couples are moving towards making ethical choices whether it be in their personal life or with events.
Sustainable weddings are becoming increasingly popular and we are seeing a shift in businesses making ethical changes too such as florists, venues and food suppliers. Did you know that food service establishments are one of the highest consumers of water!
With sustainable wedding expos like, Mindfully Wed, popping up on the scene and helping guide couples to make eco-friendly choices and connect them with the right suppliers, it is not as hard as you think to make the right choices.
Styling a sustainable event can have many levels to it, not just your beige and browns. Think beautiful earthy and neutral pallets, soft pinks, golds, rich reds and greens. Play around with natural textures and of course fresh flowers!
The ever popular naked cakes are what brides tend to lean towards with these buttercream delights having fresh flowers adorning the top, you can even switch up textures by using rustic branches, fruits or even better some brides have requested cheese wheels – not cake! The choices are endless.
If sustainability is important to you, don’t be afraid to ask your vendors the questions, such as, asking your florist not to use an oasis, ask your cake decorator not to use plastic for cake supports and ask whether your venue or any other food supplier if they source local/ethical ingredients (like chocolate, local produce such as eggs and butter etc … )
By adjusting things ever so slightly, we can all help make a difference.
