The Spooky re-cap!

The spooky season is finally over and we are heading strong into Christmas! Can you hear those jingle bells??

Last month, if you missed it, I decided to create some custom cakes as a give away not only so I could have some fun with the Halloween theme but also to show you what I can create and also promo the business!

I don’t like wasting cake and I thought just running a Facebook ad was boring AF, so, why not give away cakes to my followers!

It was such a success and was so great interacting and meeting new and old clients!

Jack-o-Lantern:

A chocolate mud cake covered in a Belgian chocolate ganache (Belcolade)

Ol’mate Jack was carved into his pumpkin shape with scary carved eyes and mouth. The original concept was to place LED lights in his eyes, however, I could not find tiny lights in time and the smallest led boards I had were too big. Otherwise the shape of the cake would have been compromised.

All in all he turned out to be amazing and went to the lucky winner Jessica!

Zombie Graveyard:

This one was a unique shape, with the graveyard in the centre of the cake, almost like a fault line cake but with a difference. The zombie was poking through the top of the cake covered in non-melting dirt I’ll share this recipe in a later blog if anyone is interested to know how to sustain this type of texture without it melting. The zombies features and ripping skin were made with edible food colouring and rice paper. A detailed cake all together and this spooky graveyard went to the lucky winner, Kelly!

The Zombie graveyard was a funfetti cake covered in a Belgian chocolate ganache (Belcolade)

Pennywise:

THIS was by far the most creepiest cake and to be honest one of the scariest movies I watched as a kid when the original with Tim Curry.

I was originally going to paint Tim Curry but the new Pennywise just creeped me out even more.

I wanted something simple but effective, a black cake with a painted Pennywise and then the Balloon, Boat and the infamous yellow raincoat.

It literally gave me chills staring at his face the entirety of painting him and when I announced I couldn’t wait to get rid of him, the original winner could not be contacted!! I honestly thought I jinxed myself. Luckly the re-draw winner I was able to connect with AND she was a local and a Stephen King fan so, absolutely PERFECT!

The cake was made out of chocolate mud cake and covered in Belgian chocolate ganache (Belcolade)

 SLIMER:

The final cake in the series and the one that was ALL nostalgia. Slimer was one of my favourite characters from the Ghostbusters movie (the original) and boy was he fun to make. He is 98% edible, the only non edible parts are his arms which were made out of cake armature wire.

The armature wire was covered in tape and then foil with fondant sandwiching the inside so it didn’t touch the cake. The rest of him was edible.

His features were moulded from fondant to create his rolls and big chins and of course his BUTT! Did you know Slimer had a booty? I found this all too funny and made sure he had the perfect ghost rump.

The cake went to the lucky winner, Amy who tuned out to be a friend from highschool so it was so LOVELY to see her again and catch up.

I hope you enjoyed these cakes as much as I did, BIG congrats to the winner and everyone who entered the competition.

As a thank you, I sent every person that entered a gift voucher of 10% off their next cake purchase.

Stay tuned for some amazing Christmas content which I am currently planning.
