Ever made a promise that you just can’t back out of?
Boy did I ever!
It all started over 14 weeks ago to be exact, when LGA’s of Sydney were thrown into a lockdown.
While my life was on hold, quiet literally! I thought it would be great opportunity to create some cake content for my YouTube account.
Having time for me is a luxury and what a brilliant way to make use of my time by baking yummy treats.
It was all a little bit of tasty fun …
I mean, this wouldn’t last too long, a month maybe, that’s 4 videos - easy peasy!
A rookie mistake!
There was nothing easy or peasy about what was about to unfold ….
On the 18 July, my third baking video in, Neenish Tarts to be exact!
I looked dead into the camera and boldly promised to keep baking until we are out of lockdown, because, what’s another week or two …
Those words still haunt me!
Did somebody say TEQUILA?
As the daily updates on our imminent future rolled out at 11am, that overwhelming feeling of “we are in this of the long haul” hit me like a TEQUILA SHOT at 2am.
It wasn’t pretty …… cue the small business panic, my business relies on mass gatherings - trading completely ceased. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila - FLOOR!
All I had in that moment was time, time to create and bake, after all … I did make a promise, right?!
I still remember the exact “oh shit” moment where I thought, how many more baking videos do I have in me ?
No takesies backsies …
I realised that I made a promise on camera, I’m owning it and well, it’s documented for the world to see !

It was sink or swim, the point of no return, it was CRUNCH TIME!
The Queen of bloopers, not bakes ..
To be fair, baking for me is fun but not something I am passionate about.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s part of my job and I do love it BUT I am more passionate about painting cool art on cakes than baking a muffin … real talk.
One thing I did learn was that I was QUEEN of the BLOOPERS reel and sometimes the bloopers got more attention than the bakes.
I’m not mad about it, in fact, I had more fun making those than I did the actual baking videos.
You see, I love showing people that it’s not always perfect.
It never is!
If only you actually had eyes on the real behind the scenes of a cake decorator.
PICTURE THIS .. it’s 1 am, it’s FREEZING cold, your t-shirt has remanence of icing sugar dusted across the front, your eyes are migrating inwards as you have been staring at the one spot on your cake for the last 3 hours meticulously piping the final details onto the cake, your hands are stained in the colours of the rainbow because it just is, okay! …… AND you have to get up in 5 hours to get your cake delivered on time, you might be lucky to get a few hours sleep, and then, your piping bag bursts and the icing spurts all over your intricate work …. and you have to start again …….. insert twitching eye here …. imagine watching THAT shit show, I mean, blooper!
Baking and decorating (and filming while your doing it) is HARD WORK, but I did want to share some bakes and perhaps encourage someone to get into the kitchen, try a new skills (it’s not that scary) and just have some fun.
14 weeks of my life I’ll never get back!
As restrictions started to ease after 14 weeks, I decided it was time to finish the baking series.
I was so happy I made that pinky promise.
It gave me an opportunity to create different types of content when I usually don’t have the time.
YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok (one of my favourites)
It was definitely a journey.
